Solar & Electrical Blog

Fall is an excellent time to prepare your home for the possibility of power outages during the colder months. Winter storms, high winds, heavy rain, and other severe weather can interrupt electrical service when you need heating, lighting, and other essential systems most. A standby generator can automatically provide backup power when an outage occurs, helping your household remain comfortable and connected. At Greenpoint Solar & Electrical, we provide expert generator installation throughout the Hudson Valley. Here are four reasons to consider installing a standby generator at your home this fall.

Prepare Before Winter Storms Arrive

Installing a standby generator before winter gives you an opportunity to prepare for severe weather in advance. Once temperatures drop and storms become more frequent, losing power can create significant inconveniences. Having a professionally installed generator already in place means your backup power system is ready when an outage occurs, rather than requiring an emergency installation during a storm.

Keep Essential Systems Running

A power outage can affect much more than your home's lighting. Depending on the generator and electrical setup, backup power can help keep important systems and appliances operating. Heating equipment, refrigerators, sump pumps, security systems, and other essential devices may benefit from reliable backup electricity. Your installer can help determine which systems should receive priority during an outage.

Maintain Comfort During Outages

Losing electricity during cold weather can quickly make your home uncomfortable, and perhaps dangerously cold. A standby generator can help maintain heating and other essential household functions when the electrical grid goes down. Unlike portable generators, standby systems are designed to remain installed at your home and can automatically begin supplying backup power, making them a convenient option.

Improve Peace of Mind

Knowing that your home has a dependable backup power source can provide valuable peace of mind during severe weather. Instead of worrying about how long an outage will last or whether you need to manually set up a portable generator, a standby system can provide automatic backup power when needed. This can be particularly reassuring for households with small children or elderly residents.
